Anise…Happy Birthday to you!

If you’re looking for that perfect venue for a special occasion (a birthday maybe *wink wink*) look no further than Anise. Relaxed, intimate, warm and inviting, this stunning venue is a pocket rocket (aka small but ah-may-zing), offering a next level dining experience that oozes Brisbane cool.

From the outside Anise is beautiful; step inside and be amazed! Honestly, pull up a stool and don’t be shy, have a chat to the staff, there are many a story to be told – and these guys and girls are super knowledgeable when in comes to great food and beautiful wine. From the dishes you are served that use only the freshest in-season ingredients, to the 1940’s Shell Oil sign exposed brick wall (a surprise discovered during renovations!), this venue offers a lovely personal dining experience.

What is absolutely brilliant about Anise is the way their menu is offered. Everyone loves a surprise, and Anise do surprises so deliciously well. The surprise element comes from the fact that the menu will rarely be the same, as using only the freshest, in-season ingredients, the chefs whip up delicious, real, healthy meals which are perfectly portioned in size and served degustation style – the best way to savour the flavours. If you check out the Anise website (‘What’s On’ section), they offer ‘Magnum Monday’s’; a four-course pre-set menu for $45 (bargain!) and Tuesday-Saturday, you can delight in their 7-course Degustation Menu for $100, or $155 with matching wines (go on, treat yo’ self).

If you haven’t done degustation before, Anise would be highly recommended as the place to pop your degustation cherry. Degustation is essentially the appreciative tastings of smaller plates of food that are carefully put together like mini pieces of art that are bursting with flavour and taste absolutely divine.

For the speedy eaters out there (*sheepishly raises hand*) a degustation dinner is the ideal way to be able to enjoy a night out (without eating and leaving in record time) and takes away the stress of trying to pick one thing on a delicious menu, as essentially you get to sample several different (pre-set) meals as part of the experience. To top off why degustation is so great, it actually encourages you to eat slower which gives you time to appreciate each dish for what it is (the beautiful plating work by the chefs is also an amazing conversation starter). With smaller portions, served at intervals, it really is a healthy way to eat as it gives your body the time to acknowledge when you are actually feeling full.

Speaking of delicious degustation celebratory dinners…original owner, Tony Harper opened Anise back in 2000, fast-forward to 2015, and Thames Delaforce (Anise, Owner/Manager) is getting set to celebrate Anise’s 15th Birthday! And when we say celebrate, it will be a celebration in serious style! One for Brisbane’s true foodies, on Wednesday 22 July, Anise will be hosting a special birthday event showcasing black truffles from Tasmania and featuring Krug champagne. Tickets to this special event are strictly limited and are available by booking only.
