Sono Restaurant, Portside Wharf

Gracing the shores of the Brisbane river at Portside Wharf is the one and only Sono Japanese Restaurant. Following the success of it’s sister-restaurant in Brisbane’s Queen Street Mall, Sono has been blessing Brisbanite’s with it deliciously healthy food since 2007.

Upon walking into the venue you feel as though you’ve instantly been transported to Japan. The tranquil, calm environment overlooking the Brisbane river is accompanied by immaculate attention to detail. From the low Japanese style seating to the bamboo accents and elegant water fountains, the design is nothing short of perfection.

What everyone is most concerned about though is the menu! Rest assured, Sono offers an outstanding amount of healthy, fresh options that ensures it is a flawless dining option for those looking for something nutritious and delicious (just steer clear of the deep fried options and you are good to go!).

At $88 dollars per person you can experience a truly exquisite taste of Sono’s finest dishes. Forget suffering “food FOMO!”. In the mood for treating yourself? There is also the additional option of wine matching, with choices of Western/local wine or Traditional Japanese Sake to compliment each dish. The six course tasting menu is as follows:

Six Course Tasting Menu 

First Course:

Fresh oyster with lime sauce

Soft shell crab karaage with shiso salsa

Seared wagyu with sesame sauce 

Second Course:

Tuna and salmon sashimi and snapper carpaccio with shallots, sesame seeds, garlic vinaigrette

Third Course:

Fresh crab meat croquette and scampi spring roll

Fourth Course:

Prawn tempura sushi roll, cucumber sushi roll and seared salmon belly sushi drizzled with mayonnaise, sea salt and avocado

Fifth Course:

Your choice of ONE of the following dishes, all served with miso soup. 

South Qld Kobe Cuisine Wagyu striploin MB7 steak with garlic soy Jus ** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; the steak is cooked to perfection at medium rare, paired with vegetables to make this a perfect healthy and utterly delicious option!**  

NSW Duck breast with teriyaki orange sauce 

Pan fried Barramundi with garlic and lemon soy

Sixth Course: Chef’s selection of Sono’s most popular deserts (changes weekly)

Each and every course is flawless! The menu tasting is a perfect option for those first time diners looking to see what Sono is all about. While it may be more taxing on the budget, you are assured value for money and a true experience of traditional Japanese cuisine.

Sono’s dining experience is easily the best Japanese Brisbane has to offer -the hype is real! Get on down to Sono and treat yourself, you will not be disappointed.
